It’s a common misconception that orthodontic treatments are not suitable for adults. If the words “orthodontics” and “braces” bring to mind a picture of a teenager with their mouth full of metal then it’s time for you to rethink that picture.
At the Sanoudos Kapakian Orthodontic Clinic in Glyfada we understand the needs of our patients and therefore we offer “invisible” braces for adults as part of our orthodontic treatment.
Tooth Colored Ceramic Braces for Adults
In the past, many people have been put off the idea of tooth straightening because of an unwillingness to wear prominent or conspicuous braces.
Tooth-colored brackets provide a less noticeable alternative to traditional braces. We use the latest ceramic brackets to make fixed braces a discreet and popular choice for adults. They combine inconspicuous appearance with a high degree of control over the final positioning of your teeth.
Invisible (Lingual) Braces for Adults
Lingual braces for adults are placed behind the teeth (by the tongue and palate), rather than in front. These “invisible” braces therefore offer a great cosmetic alternative for adults who want their teeth straightened, without braces showing. Like traditional braces, lingual braces work by applying gentle pressure on the teeth, to help them shift into proper position.
Invisalign for Adults
The Invisalign System now makes it possible for orthodontists to offer adults requiring full-mouth orthodontic treatment an aesthetically agreeable “invisible” braces solution, using a computer-assisted technology that produces a series of clear plastic overlays.
Recent developments in technology have now made it possible, with the Invisalign System, to take a single impression of a patient’s dentition, and use that to:
- Create a digital model of the mouth and teeth.
- Project stages of tooth movement from the initial state to the final state.
- Create a series of clear, custom-made orthodontic appliances, called “aligners”, that move the teeth according to the projected stages of movement.
Aligners offer several advantages over conventional fixed appliances: Firstly, they are totally “invisible”, and therefore more aesthetically acceptable, particularly for adults. Also, aligners are generally more comfortable to wear, and they are removable, allowing better oral hygiene.
